Are you Pregnant this Spring? Let's Chat

Pregnancy massage

Spring is such a perfect time to be pregnant. The cold has taken a much needed rest and the relentless heat has not quite risen yet. The bugs are just waking up and the ice is melting down the stream into a much loved local beach front. You and your growing belly must be thankful you can get outside and enjoy Spring!

If you are considering being more active with a baby internally attached, I get it, it is not always the easiest task. However, the alternative of an unhealthy sedentary lifestyle can present some pretty harsh complications.  Spring is a fantastic time to get out for a walk, run or bike ride with a friend or have some time alone to clear your mind. I love spring adventures and all the unexpectant joy that comes with it. You may hear the belly giggle of a toddler doing the frankenstein walk towards his mommy, or see a squirrel haphazardly dashing across the street or perhaps feel a smile break across your face as a familiar smell brings up a wonderful memory.  All that from one walk? Good deal!

If you are already active, it is often perfectly fine to maintain your routine, as long as your physician gives you the ok and your body allows for it. It is always best to go over your regime with your doctor at the start of your pregnancy to avoid complications. It is great to know that running, hiking, swimming, working out during their pregnancy are all real options. As the pregnancy progresses and/or discomfort arrives, there will be cues from your body and doctor to dial it back to lower impact activities. Fortunately, there are a ton of lower impact activities out there!

So, whether you are already have a clear exercise routine in sight or you want to increase your activity for you and baby, here are some great reasons why.

  • Less lower back pain

  • Helps with heartburn

  • Releases Endorphins to help with ‘baby blues’

  • Lifts your mood

  • Keeps weight down

  • Increases strength and flexibility

  • Helps you sleep better

  • Can help with labor and delivery

  • Decreased leg swelling

  • You will be more relaxed and easier to deal with (insert winky face)

Active mommy’s will often raise active kids and that is good stuff! Get out there and take that baby and you for a spring 30 minute jaunt out your door, down the path and breathe. Baby says, 'thank you mommy.'
